Libya and Austria are discussing the acceleration of the re-establishment of a direct air route between the two countries.
The news came out of last Tuesday’s (22 September) meeting between Abubaker Al-Taweel, Director of the European Affairs Department of the Tripoli based Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with Barbara Gross, Ambassador of Austria to Libya.
The Ministry reported that the meeting addressed several issues of mutual interest, including the re-establishment of a direct air route between the two countries. In this regard, according to the Ministry, the Ambassador expressed her intention to work through her government to accelerate the establishment of a direct air connection between Libya and Austria.
Al-Taweel noted that several European countries, as well as Arab countries and Turkey, now operate direct air routes between their cities and Libya, particularly as Libya is preparing for the reopening of Tripoli International Airport.
Al-Taweel did not specify a date of the reopening of Tripoli International Airport.
Taxation and energy sectors
The meeting also addressed cooperation in the field of taxation, particularly the acceleration of signing a double taxation avoidance agreement, as well as the Austrian side’s interest in developing and strengthening cooperation in the energy sector.
Such efforts, the ministry said, would contribute to supporting and broadening the prospects of bilateral relations between Libya and Austria, promoting exchanges of visits between officials of the two countries, strengthening economic and trade relations, and encouraging the private sectors in both countries to advance these ties.
The discussions further highlighted ongoing serious efforts by business communities in both countries to develop and strengthen economic and industrial relations.
