The General Electricity Company of Libya (GECOL) reported yesterday that, technical teams from its Tripoli Medium-Voltage Networks Department have completed the relocation and shifting of 30 kV medium-voltage cables that supply power to the Tripoli Airport station.

The state monopoly power generation and distribution company said this is a significant step that accelerates the implementation of the Tripoli International Airport project.

GECOL added that this achievement marks a key phase of the project, as it facilitates the preparation of cable routes, addresses implementation requirements, and supports the completion of the work in accordance with the established plans.

The announcement underscores the fact that despite the Tripoli government trying to keep the opening date of Tripoli International Airport under wraps, the opening date is fast approaching through a multiplicity of related announcements.

Tripoli International Airport is expected to open sometime in the ‘‘fourth quarter’’ of 2026.
