Minister of Local Government discusses joint programmes and strengthening development cooperation with GIZ

Libya’s Tripoli-based Minister of Local Government, Bader Aldeen Al-Tumi, held discussions last Tuesday with the Regional Director of the Germany’s GIZ, Manfred Karl Friedrich, and his accompanying delegation, about joint cooperation and existing programmes between the two sides, in addition to discussing the prospects for developing cooperation.

These discussions come within the framework of coordinating cooperation in multiple fields that will achieve sustainable development and enhance the role of local administration, the Ministry of Local Government reported.

More digital transformation achieved
At the beginning of the meeting, the Minister pointed out the progress achieved at the local administration level, especially in the field of employing information and communications technology in completing administrative work and providing services in the sector, stressing in this regard that the Ministry is moving at deliberate steps towards implementing several projects in the field of digital transformation, with most of the Ministry’s administrative work being managed electronically.

More upcoming measures to increase Municipality’s resources
The Minister pointed out that there is a package of measures that will be taken in the coming days, which will have a positive and real impact on the level of activating municipalities and increasing the volume of their resources, especially in the field of asset management within the scope of their work.

GIZ has had a positive impact
During the meeting, the Minister stressed the importance of cooperation with GIZ, and its positive impact on developing targeted programmes and enhancing capabilities. He also pointed out that the government is working to develop the local administration system and enhance the services provided to citizens. In addition to enhancing the role of women and youth and enabling them to participate in local decision-making and drawing up public policies for the state.

For its part, the Ministry reported, GIZ stressed its readiness to enhance cooperation with the Ministry and work to implement more programmes and projects aimed at achieving sustainable development. It expressed its appreciation for the efforts made by the Ministry in strengthening local administration and providing services to citizens.
