Launch of the British Libyan Business Association (BLBA) in Libya

In a noteworthy demonstration of the strengthening commercial ties between Libya and the United Kingdom, the Chairman of the Tripoli Chamber of Commerce, industry and Agriculture, Anwar Abu Sitta, and Isam Abughalia, the Head of Laboratory at the Food and Drink Control Centre (FDCC), met with the British Libyan Business Association (BLBA) today to discuss collaboration on the establishment of a Centre of Excellence for food testing, technology, and standards in Libya.

The proposed centre will facilitate Libya in obtaining the necessary certification to export its food products and produce globally.

According to Jon Hancock, the Chairman of the BLBA, “This is yet another shining example of how Libya is advancing in its engagement with the international community. Libya produces award-winning produce and has recently earned recognition in competitions for its olive oils and dates. These and many other examples are ideal for export as premier, high-quality products in their respective sectors.” Hancock further stated, “The fact that the Chamber and FDCC have agreed to work towards an internationally recognized testing centre is a testament to their positive and progressive approach towards Libya’s development.”

After productive discussions during today’s meeting, the BLBA said all parties involved reached a consensus and committed to collaborating towards a harmonized approach that will ensure the successful completion of the project. This unified effort underscores the dedication and determination of the parties in achieving their shared objective, the BLBA added.

Alex Breingan CEO of the BLBA stated “We felt that the decision to pursue a unified approach was critical to the project’s success as it will foster cooperation and encourage open communication among the parties. By establishing this common ground, all parties can leverage their strengths and expertise towards achieving the goal efficiently. This commitment reflects a strong sense of teamwork and a shared vision of success”.
