London, 12 March 2019:

Mohamed El Sallak, the official personal spokesperson for Faiez Serraj, head of Libya’s internationally recognized Presidency Council and Government of National Accord, categorically denied that there was an assassination attempt on Serraj yesterday.

Numerous reports circulated on Libyan social media yesterday that there had been shooting at Mitiga airport coinciding with the return of Serraj from his Qatar trip.

The reporting narrative linked the shooting specifically to Serraj’s visit to Qatar. However, El Sallak, in a message sent directly to Libya Herald, denied any shooting or an assassination attempt.

Other reliable sources, however, still insist that there was shooting ‘‘in the air’’ at Mitiga during Serraj’s arrival.
