A group of Libyan engineers who will operate the Ubari power station have returned to Libya after completing their technical training abroad.
The news was revealed by Mohamed El-Sallak, Faiez Serraj’s personal spokesperson, on Tuesday at the weekly press conference in Tripoli.
Quoting the General Electricity Company of Libya (GECOL) , Sallak said that there had been an increase in the generation capacity to approximately 6,000 MW, with the entrance of the Ruwais power sation unit online and the completion of maintenance work in a number of other stations.
This leaves a deficit of about 1,500 MW with current electricity consumption at about 7,500 MW.
Sallak stressed that GECOL is working to reduce this deficit, which is causing long power cuts, by introducing more stations onto the grid, headed by the Ubari power station.
Sallak said Ubari had began technical arrangements to operate after the arrival of Libyan engineers, who had undergone a training program in Germany and Turkey.
This training, Sallak explained, qualified the Libyan engineers to operate the station in the absence of foreign engineers.
The Libyan engineers will start operating Ubari during January to add another 600 MW to the electricity grid.
