Benghazi, 7 July 2017:

Four LNA soldiers, including an unnamed field commander, died today as troops tried to seize the very last militant positions in a few buildings in Benghazi’s  Sidi Akribesh.  The deaths come 48 hours after armed forces commander-in-chief Khalifa Hafter announced the liberation of the city.

As LNA units cautiously combed the buildings they have taken in Sabri they discovered a secret prison in Bala Street from which they freed ten captured soldiers.

While it has not been said how many militants have been killed in todays fighting, the LNA said that it had captured three. One of them was a Sudanese man said to be a sniper. The other two militants had apparently offered a soldier LD 80,000 to help them flee. The soldier agreed but reported the deal to his superior who organised an ambush when the two men sought to escape.

How such a large amount of money could be offered as a bribe became apparent when members of the Saiqa Special Forces discovered suitcases packed with considerable quantities of local and foreign currency.

A sadder discovery today was the decomposing body of a woman in Al-Gumhouriya hospital.
