Tripoli, 14 May 2017:
The head of the National Oil Corporation (NOC), Mustafa Sanalla, has been in Zintan to discuss issues relating to oil production and payements with the local council of elders and the town’s petroleum committee.
At the end of last month, following at deal between the NOC, the elders and Zintani petroleum facilities guards (PFG), the oil taps at nearby Reyayna were reopened, enabling production at the Sharara and El Fil oilfields to begin again. However, although the Zintanis said that there would be no more closures, they also said that there were a number of issues still to be resolved. At the top of these were demands for back pay for their PFG members who, they say, have not been paid for two years.
Zintani PFG members had been deployed in the two fields.
Yesterday’s talks were described “friendly and promising”.
Any payments, however, have to made and approved by the Central Bank of Libya.
