Tripoli 2 June 2015:
The local radio station in Hun in Jufra district was reported to have been attacked and . . .[restrict]badly damaged yesterday. Most of the studio equipment is said to have been destroyed, as were the outside antennae.
The assailants are unknown. Suggestions that Islamic State (IS) forces were responsible cannot be confirmed.
IS is reported to be active in the area and is thought to have some followers in the town but if it was behind the attack it would be the first time it had carried out an attack there.
However, IS is believed to be focussing on Jufra as its next major target. Control of it would give it a corridor from Sirte down towards Sebha and from there towards Niger.
There are reports that an IS group from Sirte was in Jufra last week to negotiate an alliance with some Islamist sympathisers. [/restrict]
