Kufra, 19 November 2014:
Despite emergency repairs to a fighting-damaged mast, Al Madar’s telephone service in Eastern Libya is still . . .[restrict]being disrupted because of a lack of power.
The telephone provider has used its website to apologise to angry subscribers. Fighting ten days ago knocked out a mast on the Al Madar Benghazi headquarters at Bouatni. Engineers managed to fix the damaged mast but the power to the unit had been cut. Back-up generators kicked in but later ran out of fuel.
The company explained that working with the Red Crescent it had tried but failed to bring more supplies to Bouatni, because of the intensity of the fighting.
It therefore urged the electricity utility GECOL the restore mains supply to the district so that the mast can resume relaying. Meanwhile Al Madar is asking Benghazi Municipal Council or anyone who can help deliver fuel to the generators at Bouatni to get in touch on 094 528 1657 – a Libyana number.
