Tripoli, 17 May 2014:
El Fil oilfield west of Murzuk has been closed again by Petroleum Facilities Guards (PFG) after . . .[restrict]reopening for just two days.
The Head of the Management and Operation Department at Mellitah Oil Company, which operates the field, Husain Abu Silyana, told the Libya Herald that the blockade at El Fil had been imposed so swiftly that production had not resumed during the brief period it was open.
He said the local Murzuk PFG had blockaded the oilfield beginning yesterday and had made a number of demands but did not explain them.
El Fil was reopened on Wednesday after nearly a month’s disruption. A blockade in the Jebel Nafusa had been imposed by Zintani PFG members claiming to be opposed to the General National Congress (GNC).
The oilfield is a a joint venture between the National Oil Corporation and the Italian energy giant Eni. It is capable of producing 130,000 barrels a day. [/restrict]
