Tripoli, 26 January 2014:
The Libyan Civil Registry Authority has established an investigations department to look into counterfeit and incorrect . . .[restrict]identification documents which have become prolific since the revolution.
Director of the Authority, Mohammed Abdullah Boker, said the newly-created Civil Affairs Investigations Directorate had been accorded the status of the police Criminal Investigations Department, with powers to arrest suspects. He added that the directorate was on a mission to “end corruption and fraud.”
Counterfeit family books and other fraudulent official documents have become widespread since the revolution, either through the manipulation of new identification procedures or through the manufacturing of illegal copies.
