Tripoli, 24 November 2013:
Students and staff at Tripoli University have extended their strike for another week, following meetings yesterday morning.
“They have . . .[restrict]decided to continue the strike for another week,” a member of Tripoli University’s Student Union told the Libya Herald. “They still want proper security to provided for the university and for all militias to leave Tripoli, in accordance with Law No. 27.”
The meeting yesterday, held on campus, was attended by protesting members of the student union, professors and deans from the university and representatives from Tripoli Local Council.
Strikes began at the University after demonstrations in Tripoli’s Gharghour area left 47 people dead and nearly 500 injured. Some ten students are understood to have been among those killed.
The university confirmed to Libyan news agency LANA that, although classes were suspended, administrative departments would continue working. [/restrict]
