Benghazi, 23 October 2013:

Reports that an ordinary Benghazi resident had been killed in crossfire in a shootout between the . . .[restrict]police and criminals early this morning were denied today by the city’s Joint Operations Room spokesman, Abdullah Zeidi. He told the Libya Herald that the attack had taken place in Benghazi’s downtown Bilad area. A parked police vehicle had come under fire from an individual who then fled. However, no had been hurt.

The man shot in the street, Zeidi said, had been killed following an overnight dispute between two families which had escalated into a gun fight. The body of 43-year-old Usama Salim Al-Sheikhi was discovered in a street in Majouri district at 7.45 am.

Zeidi said that a body was found yesterday near the city’s Ouzu Hotel. The victim has been identified as Saeed Jouda Al-Manifi, a resident of Leithi district. He was an actor, Zeidi said, not  a member of the armed forces or the police. he added that he thought that the man’s death was most likely as a result of a quarrel. An investigation has been opened.
