Tripoli, 14 December:
The Housing and Infrastructure Board (HIB) met at the General National Congress to discuss remedying shortfalls in . . .[restrict]Libya’s public utilities on Wednesday.
Chaired by Dr Mohamed Yunus Al-Manfi, the meeting heard recommendations from a team that had been investigating water supplies in the Jaghbub area.
The oasis town of Jaghbub, near the Egyptian border, was originally due to be included in the Great Manmade River project. Its water supplies were to have been linked to Tobruk by pipeline and used to supply homes across the region, but the plan never came to fruition.
Delegates also discussed a request made by Minister of Housing and Public Utilities Ali Al-Sharif into stalled construction projects across the country.
Sharif accompanied GNC President Mohamed Magarief on a visit to Turkey last week, where Turkish companies were promised compensation for losses they suffered as a result of the revolution last year.
There is an urgent need for more housing units all across Libya and in November Sharif highlighted the need for construction projects abandoned during the revolution to be completed.
Al-Manfi told the Libya Herald in November that it was urgent that foreign companies should be encouraged to return to Libya to complete the housing projects. It was vital, he said, to find a solution to encourage them to come back. [/restrict]
