Tripoli, 4 August:

A series of workshops this month aims to establish a safe and effective blood transfusion service for Libya.

“Safe Blood . . .[restrict]for All” will take place at the Oncology Institute in Sabratha on 22 and 23 August and will feature home-based and expatriate Libyan haematologists as well as other doctors, foreign officials and representatives of regional blood transfusion units. The initiative is backed by the Libyan Ministry of Health and features seminars on such subjects as “donor selection”, “training issues” and “haematology challenges in Libya”.

The organisers hope that the event will allow those present to share their experience and expertise, helping to develop a safer system of blood transfusion in Libya and spread knowledge and understanding of the process.
