Tripoli, 1 March 2015:

Zawia is providing accommodation  for thousands of  displaced families from towns all over western Libya, and even . . .[restrict]from as far away as Benghazi, according to local officials.

The Crisis Committee for the Municipality of Zawia that since last August, a total of 3,027 displaced families have been registered but that the real figure is 4,434 families.

Initially, when fighting began in Tripoli last August, families came from the outskirts of the capital. They moved from areas around Airport Road, Gasr Ben Gashir, Ghut Shaal, Al-Dawa Al-Islamiya, Gurji, Dreibi, Abu Sleem, Hadba and Al-Gariya Al-Salih. Most of these were later able to return home, apart from those whose homes had been badly damaged near Airport Road, in particular the area near the Airport Road fuel depot fire.

Also in August, Zawia began to receive families displaced by fighting in the Warshefana areas. Nearly 544 families from Maya, Zahra, Crimea, Gargoza, Swani, Mamoura, Azizia, Teen and Seeyad stayed in Zawia for some time. Many returned to their homes immediately after the clashes ended. But some whose homes were badly damaged have remained in Zawia.

Another wave on displacement began in October, with the Crisis Committee recording a record number of families seeking shelter in Zawia. These came from Jebel Nafusa towns south of Zawia and as far away as Benghazi and Derna.

Of these, 941 were from areas south of Zawia: Bir Ghanam, Gariya Nasr, Shalghoda, Ben Shuaib, Bir Aseel, Wadi Al-Hay and Al-Rabta. Another 61 families came from Kikla, Al-Qalaa and Reyayna

Additionally, 30 families arrived from Benghazi and also some from Derna. [/restrict]
