For two nights residents in some Tripoli districts have demonstrated their growing discontent . . .[restrict]with Libya Dawn rule in the capital.
The protests which have been characterised by some incidents of violence and clashes with supporters of Libya Dawn have centred predominantly around the Fashloum district. Fashloum was the main centre of resistance in the capital to the Qaddafi regime prior to the city’s liberation.
In a reprise of events during the revolution last night, residents in the area returned to the streets burning tyres and blocking roads, local sources reported. The night before, following Friday prayers, one man was injured after members of the capital’s Al-Rada Brigade opened fire on the protestors. Al-Rada, which is led by Abdul Raouf Kiara, is allied with Libya Dawn.
The protests flared in the aftermath of the shooting with residents reporting further shots fired by both sides in anger.
Until that point members of Libya Dawn and their supporters had seemed to avoid the protesters it avoid any bloodshed.
In September one man was killed when members of a Misratan militia entered Fashloum.
The most recent wave of protests in Tripoli appear to have been provoked by Thursday’s Supreme Court ruling against the House of Representatives. Further demonstrations against Libya Dawn took place at the end of last week in Ajdabiya and Beida.
