Osama Treiki, an imam and preacher at the Cawn Jalud Mosque in Dafniya, west of . . .[restrict]Misrata, has resigned his post after being accused of not supporting Libya Dawn.
In his Facebook page, the imam, who also speaks about Islamic issues on Misrata TV and Misrata FM radio, reported that there had been a confrontation between himself and a member of the mosque sympathetic to Libya Dawn (but whom a reliable Misratan source has told the Libya Herald used to be a member of a Qaddafi committee). He said that the man had gathered signatures for petition against him in an effort to force him to resign and had taken the case to the Ministry of Awqaf in Tripoli.
Treiki said in his statement that the accusation was untrue but he was not with the Muslim Brotherhood or Ansar Al-Sharia and would not preach to suit the views of Libya Dawn, the Brotherhood, the Grand Mufti, the Libyan government or the Islamic State. It would be completely inappropriate to use the mosque as a platform for anyone, he said. Mosques were for the worship of God, he declared, and no one should be “invoked” during prayers or worship. Nonetheless, he had chosen to resign for fear of being sentenced to hang on 7 April for opposition to the 17 February Revolution, as had been threatened.
