For the fourth consecutive day government offices in Sirte have been closed as the result of . . .[restrict]demonstrations by residents in two the town’s districts over non-payment of financial compensation for homes damaged or destroyed during the revolution.
People from the town’s Jizah and “The Thousand Housing Units” districts also blocked roads leading to the University of Sirte, the town’s Ibn Sina Hospital and the Commercial Bank, bringing chaos to traffic in the centre of town today.
The head of the local council, Ali El-Aswad said that compensation had not been paid because of the administrative and financial delays within the Housing Ministry. Nonetheless, the problem was being solved, he said. Claimants would receive payments either next week or after the Eid al-Adha holiday.
