Greek companies are now looking to return to Libya, the country’s ambassador, Kyriakos Amiridis, told Transport Minister, Abdel-Qader . . .[restrict]Mohamed Ahmed, in a meeting this week.
Ministry of Transport media officer, Abd Aladel Almahjob, told the Libya Herald that Amiridis said that Greek companies were keen to return to the country and resume their pre-revolution contracts. “The ambassador said that Greece is, in particular, willing to collaborate with Libya on transport, including roads and ports,” Almahjob said.
Amiridis also asked Ahmed if state airlines Afriqiyah Airways and Libyan Airlines would consider starting direct flights to Athens.
Almahjob declined to comment on whether or not Greek companies would receive compensation. However, according to the Libyan news agency LANA, the government has agreed to pay 50 percent of any outstanding money upfront to returning Greek companies, with the remainder payable once they have restarted work.
