Tripoli, 1 . . .[restrict]February 2013:
Luggage to be loaded onto a Afriqiyah Airbus bound for Niger was stolen from Tripoli airport yesterday and recovered from a farm nearby, according to Supreme Security Supreme Security Committee.
The SSC reported on its web page that the baggage had been spirited away in thee small trucks. Units 4 and 8 of the SSC reportedly tracked down the stolen items and arrested three people at the farm. It was not clear how long the flight was delayed before taking off to the Niger capital Niamey.
In a separate incident this morning two Libyan Airlines flights were cancelled because no planes were available. The 0800 hrs flight to Ghadames and the 1300 hrs flight to Obari were both abandoned because none of the airlines eight 68-seater Bombardier CRJ900s was in service. A CRJ has not been repaired since being damaged during the war, one is being overhauled in Germany and on Wednesday another was hit by a tender while on the apron at Tripoli airport. The airline has thus been seeking to run scheduled services normally handled by seven aircraft with only five planes.
