Head of Airports Authority inaugurates first meeting tasked with testing readiness of systems and equipment at Tripoli International Airport

The first meeting of the joint committee, formed by virtue of the Minister of Transport’s Decision No. (353) of 2026, was held yesterday at the Libyan Airports Authority’s Tripoli headquarters.

The committee is tasked with conducting operational readiness tests for the systems and equipment at the still-under-construction Tripoli International Airport and overseeing the Operational Readiness and Airport Transfer (ORAT) phases, in accordance with the requirements of the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

In the meeting, the Head of the Airports Authority, Mohamed Younis Wali, emphasized the national and strategic importance of the committee’s mission, stressing the need to unify efforts and enhance coordination and cooperation among all parties to ensure the efficient and timely completion of the evaluation and testing processes.

The committee is responsible for overseeing the operational qualification and ORAT phases. The committee then proceeded to review the agenda and discuss the mechanisms for implementing its assigned tasks, which included the following:

• Technical Testing: Conducting operational tests on all essential systems and equipment to verify their efficiency and readiness.

• Security Systems: Ensuring the readiness of the airport’s security, inspection, and safety systems and their compliance with international standards.

• Maintenance and Logistical Support: Monitoring the provision of spare parts, technical maps, and operation and maintenance manuals, in addition to identifying needs and addressing operational requirements.

• Timelines: Monitoring the completion programs for supporting facilities and overseeing the phases of air traffic transfer and smooth operation at the airport.

The committee comprises specialists and representatives from the Airports Authority, the Civil Aviation Authority, the National Meteorological Centre, the Libyan Ground Services Company, the Transportation Projects Implementation Authority, and the Libyan Domestic Investment Fund. It will be responsible for preparing periodic reports to monitor the level of readiness until the airport reaches the stage of full operation.
