Libya’s Customs Authority reported Wednesday that officers at its Mitiga International Airport Customs Centre, in coordination with the Anti-Smuggling and Narcotics Unit of the Customs Authority, successfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle a large sum of money estimated at €495,000. The amount was found in the possession of a Libyan passenger traveling to Istanbul aboard Libyan Wings Airlines.
The Customs Authority reported that the Customs Centre has taken the necessary preliminary legal measures, and the case file will be referred to the competent judicial authorities for further investigation.
It said that through this operation, it reaffirms its commitment to combating the smuggling of funds and foreign currency in a manner that strengthens the protection of the national economy and safeguards public assets.
