Minister of Marine Wealth participates in Blue Africa Summit in Tangiers, Morocco

The Tripoli based Libyan Minister of Marine Wealth, Adel Sultan, participated in the first session of the Blue Africa Summit held in the city of Tangier in Morocco from 16 to 18 November.

The event, as its title suggests, was on protecting the marine environment and the blue economy and developing strategic plans for sustainable development. The event was organized by the Academy of the Kingdom of Morocco in partnership with the World Forum for the Seas and the Blue Season, under the patronage of the King of Morocco, Mohammed VI.

There were participants are from twenty countries in addition to representatives of international and regional organizations related to the blue economy and sustainable development, led by representatives of the United Nations, the African Union, and the European Union.

In his opening speech on the first day of the conference, Minister Sultan stressed the importance of the blue economy in all aspects of the economy. He said Libya supports blue economy programmes and calls on all countries and decision makers to work together to stand against the challenges facing these efforts, which have been made to achieve important progress. He also pointed out the importance of cooperation between the continents of Africa and Europe in the field of the blue economy and combating pollution of the seas and oceans.

The opening was followed by technical discussions and an open dialogue on the blue economy, blue finance, ocean pollution, European-African rapprochement, and climate.
