Storm Daniel hit Libya over the last 48 hours with the eastern region suffering the worse of the damage.

Heavy wind and rain has caused many roads to flood or become impassable. Roads in mountainous areas were damaged and cut off. Many homes and property have been flooded with cars submerged and washed away.

Hundreds of civilians have been trapped in their homes many eastern cities which took the brunt of the storm. Many towns and cities in the east have been declared a disaster zone.

There are unspecified reports of casualties. Many cities, including Benghazi, had ordered curfews. Schools were suspended.

The Tripoli based Libyan Prime Minister, Abdel Hamid Aldabaiba, instructed all state agencies, ministries, and institutions to deal immediately and quickly with the torrents resulting from storm Daniel that passed through the cities in the east of the country.

Meanwhile, the Tripoli-based Emergency Medicine and Support Centre (EMSC) sent a medical convoy to the cities of the eastern region in anticipation of the emergency situation that the region is going through.

The convoy included many medical and auxiliary specialties, ambulance operators, and 17 ambulances, which were provided with various equipment, supplies, consumables, and medical medicines.

Coordination has been made with the EMSC’s eastern region branch to develop a joint action plan for rapid response to confront the emergency situation in the region.
