The UNDP and Tatweer Research have launched the TEC+ programme to train 50 startups in Tripoli, Benghazi and Sebha.
Alaa Al -Khoja, Director of Tatweer Research’s Business Accelerator Programme, told Libya Herald that the Tatweer Entrepreneurship Campus Plus (TEC+) programme is a developed version of the Tatweer Entrepreneurship Campus (TEC) programme.
The TEC+ programme
The TEC programme, she explained, was a three -year programme to create an environment for entrepreneurship and contributed to the success of startups in Libya. Based on the success and lessons learned from the TEC programme, the new TEC + programme launched in partnership with the UNDP, aims to respond to economic challenges in Libya by strengthening startups with material and scientific capabilities to accelerate their growth and create work opportunities in the market.
Registration and elimination process
The next step is the registration phase and the start of receiving applications from all over Libya and then the process of sorting applications and conducting interviews with the emerging projects that will be chosen for the programme.
In the first stage, 50 startups will be targeted to be trained within four months in the accelerator programme, and the best 30 companies will be chosen to obtain a grant or financing.
How are startups helped?
She explained that the business accelerator can help the success and expansion of a project through information and experiences provided on legal, finance, marketing, and other important areas.
These will enable startups to manage and develop their projects in a better way in addition to support to prepare a full action plan for their expansion and success. There will also be continuous follow-up with the owners of companies during the programme and after its end, and at the end of the programme, opportunities will be available for various financing, whether from the programme’s grant or from companies and investors.
This initiative is funded by the European Union’s Africa Trust Fund and implemented jointly by the Ministry of Local Government and Tatweer Research as part of the UNDP’s peacebuilding efforts.
