Japan's Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs ONISHI Yohei said there were signs of positive change in Libya’s security situation.

He expressed his hope for further development of economic relations between Japan and Libya.

This, he added, was based on the economic potential of Libya and high expectations for Japanese investment and other economic activities.

Onishi's comments came during his opening remarks at the Second Japan-Libya Economic Forum, co-hosted by Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, METI and the Sasakawa Peace Foundation in Tokyo today.

It will be recalled that a Libyan ministerial government delegation is visiting Japan from 7 to 19 July.

The delegation is led by Mustafa AL-Manea, Head of the Executive Team for the Prime Minister’s Initiatives and Strategic Projects and the Special Envoy of Prime Minister Abdel Hamid Aldabaiba.

It includes the Minister of Oil and Gas, the Minister of Economy and Trade, the Chairman of the National Oil Corporation (NOC), the CEO and Chairman of the Libyan Investment Authority (LIA), the Chairman of the Renewable Energy Holding Company (REHC), the Chairman of the Greenstream Company, and the Director General of the Economic and Social Development Fund (ESDF)

The Japanese Embassy had reported that during their stay in Japan, the delegation is scheduled to participate in the Second Japan-Libya Economic Forum and hold discussions with Japanese companies.

The Embassy said it expects the visit will further strengthen the bilateral relations, particularly in the energy sector and other fields.
