Hassan Mohamed Bin Rabha, Director of the Asia and Australia Affairs Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, received yesterday at the ministry's Tripoli headquarters, Ma Xiu liang, Ambassador of China to Libya.

The meeting comes as part of the ongoing consultation and coordination between the two countries and in follow-up to the course of bilateral relations and the strategic partnership between Libya and China.

Economic, investment, and development sectors
During the meeting, the two sides discussed ways to further strengthen Libyan-Chinese relations and reviewed several issues of mutual interest, particularly in the economic, investment, and development sectors. They also explored prospects for expanding bilateral cooperation and encouraging Chinese companies to resume their projects and explore new investment opportunities in Libya.

China lowers its travel advisory level for Libya
The two sides also discussed China’s decision to lower its travel advisory level for Libya, covering several areas in both eastern and western Libya. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed this positive step, considering it a reflection of the gradual improvement in the country's security situation. The decision is expected to encourage Chinese companies and businesspeople to resume their activities and explore new investment opportunities in Libya, thereby strengthening the economic and investment partnership between the two countries and paving the way for similar measures covering additional regions and cities in the future.

Views on several regional and international issues exchanged
The meeting further included an exchange of views on several regional and international issues of mutual concern. Both sides underscored the importance of maintaining close consultation and coordination, while enhancing cooperation and mutual support in regional and international forums in a manner that serves the shared interests of the two friendly countries.

Commitment to maintaining regular communication and coordination
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining regular communication and coordination and to building upon the longstanding historical ties between Libya and the People's Republic of China, with the aim of further advancing the strategic partnership and opening broader horizons for bilateral cooperation across various fields.

Libyan-Chinese relations developing at fast pace
It will be noted that Libyan-Chinese relations have developed at a fast pace recently, and specifically since China finally appointed an in-country Ambassador to Libya last February.

Central Bank of Libya Governor met with his counterpart in Washington DC on the margins of the World Bank Spring Meetings in April and he is in Beijing this week.

Governor Issa also met China's Ambassador Ma Xiu liang prior to visiting Beijing. Several agreements have come out of these meetings, including Libya joining the CIPS payment system, the launch of direct banking transactions and Libya agreeing to invest in Chinese bonds.

Moreover, Ambassador Ma Xiu liang affirmed his country's commitment early this month to supporting the implementation of several promising new projects and services between the two countries.
