Surman Chamber of Commerce receives decision from General Union to commence its activities

The General Union of Libyan Chambers of Commerce reported yesterday that it received the president and members of the Surman Chamber of Commerce at its Tripoli headquarters yesterday.

Surman is a coastal city with a population of about 100,000 located about 66 kms west of Tripoli on the main coastal road to Tunisia.

It reported that this visit came within the framework of strengthening the role of chambers and supporting the paths of local economic development.

The Surman Chamber members were received by the Chairman of the General Union, Mohamed Raied, and the Director General of the General Union, where they welcomed this visit, which the General Union said reflects the keenness of the Surman Chamber to actively engage within the institutional work system of the Chambers.

During the meeting, the importance of the issuance of the Minister of Economy and Trade Decree No. (53) of 2026 on the establishment of the Surman Chamber was stressed, as an important organizational step towards strengthening economic governance and enabling the business community in Surman Municipality to perform its developmental role effectively.

The Chairman of the General Union also gave a full explanation of the way and mechanism of the Chambers work and its relationship with the affiliates and the relevant authorities to provide the appropriate climate for the growth of the economy.

The President of the General Union affirmed his full support for the Surman Board of Directors of the Chamber and the commencement of its work, stressing the importance of the Municipality of Surman, due to its distinguished location and the size of the great economic potential, and the role of the Chamber in facilitating commercial, industrial and agricultural activities in the region in line with the state’s directions towards activating and promoting sustainable development.

The meeting concluded by emphasizing joint work in the implementation of programmes and initiatives that support the business sector, in order to improve the efficiency of performance.
