The Ministry of Local Government's Waste Management and Environmental Sanitation team participated in a technical workshop held in the Tunis from June 25-27, as part of the third phase of the Supporting Municipalities in Libya (SML3) project.
The Ministry said this participation was within the framework of the ongoing partnership between the Ministry and the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ).
The workshop focused on reviewing a set of technical and institutional outputs related to developing the waste management system and the circular economy. This included reviewing national legislation, improving the legal framework, and preparing technical manuals and guidelines.
It also addressed developing mechanisms for municipal engagement and strengthening public-private partnerships. Furthermore, the workshop covered the development of a roadmap for implementing the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) concept, which contributes to supporting sustainable waste management in Libya.
This workshop is part of joint efforts to strengthen the capacities of national institutions and develop policies and technical guidelines that support improved waste management and environmental sanitation services and consolidate the principles of the circular economy and sustainable development at the municipal level.
