The Chairman of Brega Oil Marketing Company, Fouad Balrahim, announced the resumption of registration for the second phase of the cooking gas cylinder distribution system.

Citizens can register for a new gas cylinder after they register using their National ID Number which must be linked to their mobile phone number. The new website has been improved, making it faster and easier to register, Brega added.

Two million gas cylinders contracted for
In a live press conference held in Tripoli yesterday, Balrahim explained that the company has contracted for the supply of two million cooking/domestic gas cylinders, of which one and a half million have already arrived and half a million were on their way. This comes as part of a plan to meet the increasing demand in various regions.

6,000 gas cylinders manufactured locally
He revealed that 6,000 cylinders are being manufactured locally in a newly constructed factory, in cooperation with the Libyan Iron and Steel Company and the Military Industries Organisation, noting that production is still in the trial phase before expansion.

70 instant gas cylinder filling points will be completed by end of 2025
Balrahim said that around 34 instant cooking gas cylinder filling points across Libya are in operation now. At these points citizens can take their empty gas cylinders and fill them instantly. He said Brega was aiming for a total of 70 instant filling points to be completed by the end of 2025.

Recent fuel shortages caused by lack of delivery caused by bad weather and storage capacity
The Brega Chairman said the recent fuel shortages were caused by the failure to receive the needed imported deliveries. This was caused by bad weather affecting the ports exporting and receiving the import fuel tankers.

He also explained that there is a lack of strategic fuel storage due to the lack of storage capacity. He said that Brega was not responsible for making the final decision about the quantities and frequency of imports – but that it presents proposals to other entities on this.

Gas cylinder shortage crisis to end by end of 2026
Balrahim affirmed that these measures, along with the completion of deliveries, will contribute to ending the gas cylinder shortage crisis by the end of 2026.
