The Attorney General’s Office reported today that the Public Prosecution has ordered the detention of a former General Manager of the Libyan Foreign Investment Company in Mali, pending investigation.
The detainee is accused of terminating a contract with a contracting company worth 10 million euros, re-contracted with another company and disbursing 50% of the contract price prior to the work being completed.
He is also accused of deliberately borrowing 12 million euros from a bank, assigning a company owned by his wife as a consultant, and disbursing the loan value for a purpose other than the purpose allocated to it. This led to an indebtedness that led to transfer of ownership of the hotel to the lending bank.
Consequently, the investigator ordered the pretrial detention of the accused. He ordered the prosecution of the remaining defendants at both the national and international levels.
