The Libyan Ports Company announced yesterday (16 July) that it had signed a contract on 15 July for the purchase of a 154-ton Liebherr ground crane. The contract was signed in Rostock, Germany and the crane is for the handling of container ships at Khoms Port.
The contract was signed on behalf of the Libyan Ports Company by the Chairman of the Board of Directors and on behalf of Liebherr by the General Manager of Sales and the Area Sales Manager.
Rapid development in sizes of modern container ships
The Libyan Ports Company said this crane purchase comes within the framework of its plans aimed at supporting and developing the capabilities of its ports in line with the rapid development in the sizes of modern container ships and their operational requirements.
Accommodation of modern ships with special technical specifications
It added that the step comes in the context of enhancing the operational capabilities of Khoms Port, to ensure the accommodation of modern ships with special technical specifications that require equipment with advanced capabilities and dimensions in terms of height and reach.
Continue programmes and projects aimed at raising efficiency
The Libyan Ports Company further said that it will continue to adopt programmes and projects aimed at raising the efficiency of handling services and improving the level of performance in line with the requirements of the international maritime market.
