‎Tripoli based Libyan Prime Minister, Abdel Hamid Aldabaiba, ‎officially adopted the National Food Security Strategy 2025-2035 during a launch ceremony today. The launch was held at the Tripoli headquarters of the National Economic for and Social Development Board (NESDB).‎ The NESDB prepared the strategy.

‎Food security is a top national priority
During his ceremony speech Aldabaiba explained that food security is a top national priority, as it is a key pillar of economic and social stability, noting that this strategy comes in response to the great challenges facing Libya.‎

‎Government committed to providing resources
The Prime Minister stressed that the government is committed to providing the necessary resources and support to implement this strategy, which aims to boost local production, ‎‎achieve food self-sufficiency, and build a sustainable food system. He called for concerted efforts between all government and private sectors to ensure the realisation of the vision of the future strategy and turn it into reality.‎

Libya depends on imported food
Reporting on the event and strategy, the NESDB said Libya faces many challenges in the field of food security, as a result of its dependence on the import of food supplies due to deficiencies in agricultural policies, and in the absence of an effective early warning and emergency management system, it has become necessary to formulate a national strategy for food security.

The strategy includes 174 projects, and 65 programmes spread across four main axes, such as food provision, access to food, access to food and stabilization.‎ This strategy projects and programmes are distributed as follows:
