The Tripoli based Interior Ministry will launch a drive to deport illegal immigrants, it reported Wednesday.
The Ministry said ‘‘In the next few days, the Ministry of Interior is preparing to launch an extensive security campaign, based on the directives of the Minister of Interior-designate Major General Imad Mustafa Trabelsi, as part of its plan to deport illegal immigrants to their countries.
The campaign is scheduled to start from the capital Tripoli and later expand to include all cities and regions, in a step that reflects the ministry’s determination to enforce the law and control the security situation, with a focus on facing the challenges related to illegal immigration’’.
The Interior Ministry gave no further details. It is unclear if these are part of the on-going UN programme of voluntary repatriations of illegal migrants.
