A delegation from the German branch of the Austrian engineering company Andritz visited Libya from 3 to 5 June to help the Man-made River Authority increase water production. This comes within the authority’s 2019-23 strategic plan to increase the production capacity of its water systems.

Speaking exclusively to Libya Herald, the Director of the Media Office of the Man-made River, Salah Al-Saadi, said “In order to increase the water production capacity, experts from Andritz visited the Al-Hasawnah system well fields in the Al-Jafara Plain this June’’.

Submersible pumps
The visit included holding technical meetings during which the delegation was briefed on the used submersible pumps, clarifying their technical characteristics, and discussing electrical and mechanical faults and engineering solutions for them.

Al-Saadi said the delegation visited the central workshop for the maintenance of submersible pumps and the main pumping station in the eastern field within the Al-Hasawneh system, the Al-Jafara plain, which supplies water to the cities of western Libya and several wells.

Maintenance carried out supply enough water
He stressed that the Man-Made River Authority has maintained several water transmission lines across the three river systems, in addition to installing new valves to balance and control pressure to provide water in appropriate quantities for cities, especially in which the demand for water increases during the summer peak months.

Al-Saadi said a plan has been adopted based on permanently maintaining a high level of water in the main reservoirs, especially the Sidi Al-Sayeh reservoir that feeds the city of Tripoli and its environs, the Al-Gardabiya reservoir that feeds the city of Sirte and the central region in general, the Omar Al-Mukhtar reservoir that feeds the city of Benghazi and its environs, and the Abu Zayan reservoir that feeds the city of Gharian and its surroundings. Water transmission lines projects in the Zuwara, Nalut, and Ghadames systems have also been completed.

Regarding the provision of supplies and equipment for maintenance and development, Al-Saadi said, “The Man-made River Authority has provided what is necessary to implement its plans in an arranged timeframe, by supplying everything needed to maintain the components of the Man-made River systems. This was done in cooperation with specialized international companies, including Andritz, an international technology group, that offers plants, equipment, systems and services for various industries and uses.
