Under the slogan “Reality, Prospects and Development of the Fishing Industry”, a workshop was launched yesterday at the headquarters of the Tripoli Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture on the fishing industry and the blue economy.
The workshop was attended in-person by the head of the Tripoli Chamber of Commerce, Faraj Dribel, the Chargé d’Affaires of the Indonesian Embassy in Libya, Mohamed Ammar Maarouf, the Chairman of the Maritime Navigation Chamber’s Management Committee, Captain Riad Shadi, and the Chairman of the Liaison Committee with the Tuna Protection Organization, Hussein Al-Jaafari, and several experts and interested in this field.
There was also virtual participation in the workshop by the Director General of International Cooperation and Development at the Indonesian Ministry of Planning, the Director of the Department of Fisheries and Marine Resources in Indonesia, and several academic experts and Libyan practitioners of this economic activity.
The workshop aims to pay attention to the development of marine fishing in Libya and the development of fish farming and associated industries with the help of Indonesian expertise.
In his opening speech, the head of the Tripoli Chamber of Commerce, Faraj Dribel, expressed his gratitude for the effective participation of the Indonesian side in the activities of this workshop, and the contribution of the Republic of Indonesia to the development of the Libyan economy and its exit from the single-source economy to the diversification of production sources, and the investment of available opportunities, especially in the field of marine fishing.
He added that this workshop is being held with the help of friends in Indonesia, with their experience and accumulation in the field of agriculture and fishing and the various industries based on it.
The workshop comes as part of a series of initiatives, seminars and workshops that the Tripoli Chamber aspire to in order to mobilize Libya’s huge resource through optimal investment. Dribel indicated that this workshop is very important for the Tripoli Chamber of Commerce and will open the way for it with all its capabilities.
For his part, the Indonesian Chargé d’Affaires, Muhammad Ammar Maarouf, stressed the importance of cooperation between the two countries in the field of fish farming, fishing and the multiple industries based on them, wishing to benefit in the near future from the outputs of this workshop of constructive ideas and proposals, especially since Libya and Indonesia are two countries that enjoy great marine wealth.
Several scientific lectures were presented from the Libyan and Indonesian sides on marine fishing and fish farming during the event.
MoU signed
At the conclusion of the workshop a memorandum of understanding was signed in principle regarding coordination for the visit of a joint delegation from the Tripoli Chamber of Commerce, the Chamber of Maritime Navigation, and the Association the Libyan Marine Resources Development Authority for Indonesia to get a closer look at the work style and capabilities of the Indonesian companies specialized in the marine fishing industry and aquaculture for the blue economy and to benefit from the Indonesian experience in this field, during the month of June 2022.
