A Tripoli Chamber of Commerce delegation arrived in Indonesia Sunday at the start of a visit (17 to 21 July) to explore business cooperation with a focus on the fisheries sector.
The head of Tripoli Chamber, Faraj Dribel, discussed with the Director of the Middle East Affairs Department, Bagus Koparchih, at the headquarters of the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday, the obstacles facing Libyan business leaders. He also discussed several proposals to restore and develop economic relations between the two countries through the private sector and developing a strategy for bilateral cooperation to increase the volume of trade exchange.
Dribel indicated that the visit comes within the framework of introducing the existing economic and industrial activities in Libya, with the aim of networking between the private sectors of the two countries, achieving diversification and economic integration, and establishing a partnership that enhances bilateral trade exchange. He also met the Indonesian Planning, and Fishing Resources Ministers, as well as the head of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and the head of the Indonesian Fishing Union.
Dribel also reported that the visit hopes to lead to the signing of an MoU with the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and contracts between the private sectors. He said he was happy to discover that Indonesia is the second largest fish producer in the world and the leader in Asia.
He hoped that the Libyan delegation could learn from the Indonesian experience in the fisheries sector through knowledge and technology transfer. Dribel said the Chamber also hopes to sign an agreement to allow for Indonesian labour to work in Libya, including in the fisheries sector.
The Tripoli Chamber head was particularly impressed by the Indonesian Smart Fishing Cities which were both social and economic entities that had resulted in increased productivity. He hoped to transfer this knowhow and experience to Libya to become the basis of the new diversified Libyan economy.
