Libya’s state National Oil Corporation (NOC) revealed that Ubari power station burns 18,000 barrels of crude oil per day at a loss of half a billion annually under current oil prices. The fuel is supplied from the nearby Sharara oil field.

The revelation came after NOC chairman Mustafa Sanalla met Zallaf Libya oil company to review the second phase of the development of its Al-Atshan field.

The NOC reported that the meeting, held on Thursday at the NOC’s Tripoli headquarters, discussed the general activity of Zallaf Libya, the work stages of development of the “Al-Atshan” field and the timetable for drilling specific wells to be drilled during the year.

The company’s plan to complete the integrated development plan and arrange for development drilling operations and prepare future expectations for gas production to supply the Ubari power station with gas instead of crude oil, were also discussed.

For his part, Sanalla stressed that the NOC pays great attention to the project to develop the Al-Atshan field and puts it among its priorities, for several reasons, including its planned supply of gas to Ubari station.
