In a statement entitled ‘‘press clarification’’ issued by the National Oil Corporation (NOC) yesterday, the NOC stated that its chairman, Farhat Bengdara does not hold an Emirati citizenship.

The statement read:

‘‘A news item has spread on social media about a final ruling issued by the Tripoli Court of Appeal stating that Mr. Farhat Omar Bengdara holds Emirati citizenship.

Accordingly, we would like to state that the information mentioned is false and has no relation to the truth, and that the subject of the (court) case is actually an appeal to cancel a decision to transfer an employee, which is confirmed by the text of the aforementioned ruling attached to this statement, which stipulates the return of an employee to his previous job, and did not actually state what was falsely reported on a number of social media pages of unknown origin and funding.

The reasoning stated that Mr. Farhat Bengdara holds Emirati citizenship, which was denied by the NOC’s lawyer, and Mr. Farhat Bengdara filed a criminal complaint with the Public Prosecutor against the defendant (M. Sh.) and his lawyer for falsely claiming that Mr. Farhat Bengdara holds Emirati citizenship”.
