London, 28 June 2021:

On Friday, the General Dynamics United Kingdom Ltd, one of the subsidiaries of the giant defence industries group General Dynamics, lost its case against the Libyan government before the English Supreme Court over a contract to supply communications systems.

In January 2016, an arbitral tribunal in Geneva, Switzerland ruled that the Libyan government would pay approximately £16 million (plus interest and costs) to General Dynamics.

However, the ruling was not implemented, so the company filed a case in Britain in July 2018. The Supreme Court issued an order to implement the ruling.

But the representative of the Libyan government has appealed this ruling based on a law that requires that any lawsuit filed against the government of a foreign country must be submitted to the British Foreign Office.

The appeal submitted by the Libyan government was accepted.
