London, 15 March 2021:
Prime Minister Abd Alhamid Aldabaiba and all the members of his Government of National Unity took the legal oath of office in front of parliament in Tobruk today.
The oath ceremony was broadcast live on TV and was in the presence of the President of the Supreme Court, the Chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council, the President and Deputies of the Presidency Council, the President of the High State Council, and a number of ambassadors.
This is the first unified Libyan government since the 2014 ”Libya Dawn” Tripoli militia coup that led to the political, military and to a degree, economic split of the country.
The oath stated: “I swear by God Almighty that I will perform my duties with all honesty and sincerity, that I remain loyal to the goals of the seventeenth February revolution, that I respect the constitutional declaration, fully take care of the interests of the Libyan people and preserve the independence, security and territorial integrity of Libya.”
Earlier on, the three-member Presidency Council took its oath before the Constitutional Court in Tripoli before travelling to Tobruk.
