The U.S. Embassy for Libya yesterday welcomed the Libyan agreement reached during the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF) in Tunis to hold national elections on December 24, 2021.
The 75-member LPDF met face-to-face in Tunis from 9-16 November. It plans to continue deliberations virtually on 23 November.
The Embassy statement said this will enable all Libyans to exercise their sovereign right to choose the country’s leadership and direction. It also applauded the sincere and ongoing efforts of LPDF participants as they seek consensus on how to improve governance and service delivery ahead of these elections.
The Embassy said it stands with all responsible Libyan parties as they come together in peaceful dialogue to reassert Libya’s sovereignty, reject foreign interference, and build a brighter future through the democratic process.
