Libya’s Tripoli-based Libyan Air Ambulance Service conducted 144 flights for 490 emergency cases since the start of April, the Tripoli-based Ministry of Health reported on Friday.
These entailed flights to Rome, Tunis, Turkey and Oman to transport 410 war wounded and 80 civilian patients, including children.
There were 246 emergencies flights in Rome since the beginning of April, including 192 war injured and 54 civilian patients, and 208 emergencies to Tunisia, including 188 war injured and civilian 20 patients.
To Turkey, there were 35 emergency cases consisting of 30 war injured and 5 civilian patients. The Air Ambulance also carried a medical case from Amman to Tripoli in July.
It will be recalled that the Tripoli Ministry of Health had reported at the end of June that its Air Ambulance service had since the beginning of April carried out more than 65 flights for 286 emergency cases.
Flights, to Rome, Tunisia and Turkey, had transported 222 war wounded and 64 patients, including children.
It had reported that 246, including 192 war injured and 54 civilian patients were transported to Tunisia, 13 emergency cases to Rome, including 8 war wounded and 5 normal patients, and 22 war injured and 5 patients were transferred to Turkey.
In July, it will be recalled, the Tripoli Ministry of Health had announced that it had launched its Air Ambulance service to the general public.
It had reported that patients could now book its service on a 24-hour basis by phone, email or through its online system.
It said that it could now provide services for transporting sick and injured passengers on board its fleet of aircraft equipped with modern medical equipment – for both trips within and outside Libya.
The relaunch of the Air Ambulance service comes as part of a much wider reform programme of Libya’s health service.
