London, 13 February 2019:

The Transport Ministry said that access to the project site and work had restarted at the beginning of February.

The project involves the establishment of a new domestic and international passenger terminals.

The Ministry said that work on the project had initially started in the middle of July 2018, but that as a result of the militia fighting in south Tripoli, including the Tripoli International Airport area, work had to stop.

However, now that security has been reimposed after the end of the January 2019 militia fighting around the airport, work at the airport site has restarted.

The Faiez Serraj-led Presidency Council and Government of National Accord (PC/GNA) Transport Minister-designate Milad Matouk, it will be recalled, had confirmed in December 2016 that an Italian company will commence work on Tripoli International Airport early in 2017.

It wll be recalled that Tripoli International Airport was destroyed by milita fighting in August 2014.
