London, 20 March 2018:

Photographs have been circulating in Libyan media of a sign on top of the entrance to one of the conference rooms at the Radisson Blue Mahary hotel in Tripoli. The sign says, the ‘‘House of Representatives – Tripoli Branch’’. It is apparently another attempt to establish a branch of the House of Representatives (HoR) in Tripoli.

It will be recalled that there was an attempt to open an HoR branch in Tripoli back in January last year as HoR members in support of the Faiez Serraj Government of National Accord attempted to force a meeting to approve the GNA.

The move failed as it was condemned by the Tobruk-based HoR.

It is not clear who exactly is behind this latest attempt and what are the motives this time for the move. There has been no official comment on this latest move by the Tobruk HoR.
