Following his talks in Tripoli yesterday with the Presidency Council, new UN Special Envoy Ghassan Salamé has had talks today in Guba with House of Representatives president Ageela Saleh.
“I welcome Dr Ghassan Salamé here in Guba. He is a substantial addition to the United Nations to resolve the political crisis in Libya, and I am ready to cooperate with him to the satisfaction of the Libyan stakeholders,” Saleh said afterwards..
Speaking to the journalists after the meeting Salamé said that he sensed “a spirit of openness” on the part of Saleh towards to other “influential actors”. There was also a window of opportunity Salame explained.
“I have no illusions about the difficulties and challenges ahead. But I am optimistic and hopeful that Libya can emerge from this crisis,” he said.
“The UN is ready to work alongside you, to build on your proposals and national reconciliation efforts, to streamline the multiple initiatives, and to foster and direct consensus in order to assist Libya’s transition to peace and stability,” he added.
In Beida, after leaving Guba, Salamé met representatives from local women’s groups.
