The Central Bank of Libya (CBL) finally went public today about the counterfeit LD 50 denomination. It announced that the LD 50 notes will start to be withdrawn from circulation until the end of August.
The CBL issued a short information video distinguishing between the genuine denominations issued by the then Tripoli CBL governed by Saddek El-Kaber and the eastern based CBL then governed by Ali Hibri.
The CBL displayed and explained differences between the legal tenders, one printed in the UK and the other in Russia, contrasting them with the counterfeit note. It stated that it is unknown where or by whom the counterfeit note was printed by.
It says besides the markings visible to the eye, the counterfeit notes can be clearly identified using an ultraviolet light/scanner.
