Tripoli, 26 June 2017:
In yet another sign that the rule of law is still a far distant dream in much of the country, a Tunisian was abducted on Sunday by an armed group from Zawia who were hoping to use him as a bargain chip to ensure freedom of a Libyan man arrested by Tunisian customs on Saturday at Ben Guerdane when 35 kilos of hashish were found in his car.
It is said that the arrested man’s brother organised the subsequent kidnap, which happened on the coast road between the border town of Zultan and the crossing at Ras Jedir.
However, matters did not go according. Security forces managed a short while later to free the Tunisian. He, though, is now being held “in a safe place” in the belief that he too is a smuggler.
It is reported that there has been no action against those who abducted him.
